Overview

**MUST BE FORKLIFT CERTIFIED**

 

Support the packaging and shipping operations by supplying and removing newsprint, move recyclable materials and prepare bundles of materials. 

Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift truck to move rolls of newsprint to designated press area.
  • Move recyclable material to appropriate bins and prepare bundles of material for vendors.
  • Remove scrap newspapers using a pallet truck and remove empty newsprint cores (strip cores using machine, dispose of waste, prepare cores for newsprint vendors).
  • Maintain electric trucks (check and fill water, grease, hydraulic fluid).
  • Assist in shipping and receiving when required (arrival of equipment, inserts, etc.).
  • Clean production areas of scrap, paper and dust, using broom and vacuum.
  • Perform additional duties as required, to support the goals of The Courant and the department. 

Qualifications

  • High school equivalency desirable.
  • Fork lift operation experience needed with updated forklift truck training certificate. 
  • Baler experience helpful but not required.
  • SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED, including physical requirements of job: 
    • Ability to move and lift material using a fork lift truck. 
    • Ability to lift and remove cores and scrap weighing up to 50 pounds. 
    • Ability to prepare bundles of recyclable materials by moving material into compactor and pulling wires to secure bundles (requires a pulling strength of 100 pounds).
  • Shift varies and includes nights, weekends and holidays.
